SANDY HILL CEMETERY
HAWKESBURY, ONT.
THIS CEMETERY IS JUST WEST OF THE LEVAC MUNICIPAL PARK, WEST HAWKESBURY TOWNSHIP, CORNER OF SANDY HILL ROAD & FAUTEUX STREET, ABOUT A 1/4 TO 3/8TH OF A MILE WEST OF HIGHWAY 34, IN A GROVE OF TREES, IN THE NORTH WEST CORNER, OPPOSITE THE HOUSE OF GUY PERREAULT. [[ July 2,1992 a.w.f.]]
The stones are laying on a mound about 4 feet in height, about 30 or so feet in length and the stones are on a slope facing south east, in a north-east to south west direction. On this visit I copied 12 stones half of which are in 2 or more pieces. Also laying around are numerous pieces of markers with lettering on them and which could if all the pieces could be found make up probably, at least another 4 stones. The broken pieces could also be part of the stones copied, which are as follows and were copied from right to left.
- Mary Griswold - wife of - Baxter B. Cobb - died Sept. 27. 1853 - aged 20 years.

- Broken in 2 pieces vertically about 4 inches from the right edge.
Sacred - to the memory of - Agness Sheilds - daughter of Samuel & - Matilda Sheilds. who - departed this life - 7th June 1855: - aged 10 months & 18 days.
- Martha Carey - wife of - Robert Beggs - died July 31, 1889 - aged 59 yrs.
Native of Belfast - Ireland.

I could not turn over this stone to see if there was an inscription on bottom. [awf July 2.92]
- Charles W. Bangs - died Apr. 15, 1904 - aged 61 years.
- there are 2 pieces.
The first has a diagonal break on the top right corner, the 2nd has its left side gone and the following is how the inscription reads.

- No inscription on visible side of stone. I did not turn over stone to check back. This stone was broken as well.
- Darwin Stevens - born at Petite Nation Mill - Canada Oct. 24, 1823 - Drowned - at Hawkesbury Mills - July 23. 1888.
